Santa Clarita Transit Adds Vista Canyon Service as New Route 5 and 6 Schedules Start Nov. 7
Santa Clarita Transit rolls out updated schedules for Routes 5 and 6 on Saturday, November 7, headlined by new Route 6 service to the Vista Canyon Regional Transit Center and its Metrolink Station.
With the Route 6 extension, riders get daily bus access to the transit center at 27550 Vista Canyon Boulevard, adding another connection point to Metrolink trains. The city says riders on Routes 5 and 6 can also expect timed connections of 15 minutes or less to many Metrolink trains serving the Santa Clarita and Newhall stations, cutting down on time spent waiting between bus and train.
Along the corridors shared by Routes 5 and 6, buses will run every 30 minutes all day. Stevenson Ranch keeps targeted midday hourly service under the new schedules.
Students were a specific focus of the redesign. The new Route 5 and 6 timetables are built to line up better with start and dismissal times at Hart High School, Placerita Junior High School, Sierra Vista Junior High School and Bowman High School, shortening waits before and after school. A new dedicated afternoon supplemental route adds extra capacity for students at Sierra Vista Junior High School and Canyon High School.
The city says the updated schedules are also designed to be more consistent and on-time throughout the day. Riders are encouraged to check the new schedules before Saturday, November 7, at SantaClaritaTransit.com so the changes do not catch them off guard.
What it means for residents
If you ride Routes 5 or 6, your stop times change on November 7 even if your route does not. If you commute by Metrolink, the Vista Canyon station gains a daily bus connection, and transfers at the Santa Clarita and Newhall stations should get shorter. Parents of students at the five schools named above should check the new afternoon times, including the extra Sierra Vista and Canyon High supplemental run.
